Lot Essay

The design for the present examples were modeled after a brazier excavated from the House of Julia Felix in Pompeii now in the Naples Archaeological Museum. The Naples foundry of Sabatino de Angelis et Fils was active in the late 19th and early 20th century and renowned for casting replicas of the famous antiquities in the Museo Nazionale di Napoli. This model is listed as no. 27874 on page 336 of the J. Chiurazzi & Fils - S. De Angelis & Fils catalogue, 1910.
