A BRONZE FIGURE OF MANJUSHRI
15TH-16TH CENTURY
Manjushri is seated in vajrasana on a lotus base, with his hands in dharmachakramudra holding the tips of lotus stems which bear his attributes of a sword and a book at his shoulders. He wears a flowing dhoti gathered in folds around his knees and a swirling sash over the shoulders which reveals the bare chest adorned with beaded, pendent jewellery, and the hair is pulled up into a topknot behind the crown and falls in neat tresses onto the shoulder. There are traces of gilt lacquer.
