A LARGE FAHUA JAR, GUAN
MING DYNASTY, 15TH-16TH CENTURY
The vessel is decorated with a continuous landscape scene of scholars and attendants enjoying leisurely activities amidst bamboo, between ruyi-shaped panels containing the Eight Buddhist Emblems on the shoulder and a band of lappets above the foot. The decoration is outlined in raised slip and picked out in pale aubergine, cream, yellow and dark blue, all on a turquoise ground. The interior is covered with green glaze.
