QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The dish is delicately potted with shallow, rounded sides and is finely decorated in the center with peaches borne on leafy branches, and on the exterior with convolvulus.
10 3/8 in. (26.4 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A pair of Qianlong dishes of the same pattern from the T. Y. Chao Collection was included in the exhibition, Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1973, no. 45, and later sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 19 March 1987, lot 316. For further Qianlong examples see one from the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Blue and White Ware of the Ch'ing Dynasty, Book II, Hong Kong, 1968, p. 78-79, pl. 29; one from the Percival David Collection now housed in the British Museum, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, vol. 6, Tokyo, 1982, no. 247; and another from the collection of Harry Hellebronth illustrated by U. Wiesner in the catalogue for the exhibition, Chinesische Keramik, Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Köln, 1988, pp. 142-43, no. 100. A blue and white example, without the yellow enamel, is illustrated by J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics, The Koger Collection, London, 1985, no. 96.
For examples sold at auction, see a pair from the collection of Sir Thomas Fermor-Hesketh sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30 May 2006, lot 1245. A second pair from the Harry Nail and John Yeon Collections was sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 2007, lot 331, and one of the pair was sold again at Christie’s Hong Kong, 31 May 2017, lot 3208. Another single dish from the Thomas English Cody Collection was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 1 June 2011, lot 3921.
