Lot Essay

His Self Portrait links up with the Pierrot: his stern, whitish, unpleasant features reflect his mental torment, his almost innate diffidence towards mankind. Banting was a more and more introvert personality as time went by.

We are very grateful to Michel Remy for preparing this catalogue entry.
