Lot Essay

James Ramsay Cooper, son of the painter and engraver Richard Cooper (c. 1740-1814), is seen here at the age of twelve or thirteen. He later served as a Deputy Commissioner in Welligton's army and died of a fever caught on campaign in Portugal in 1804.
