etching, 1635, on laid paper, without watermark, a very good impression of the second or third state (of three), trimmed inside the platemark, retaining a fillet of blank paper outside the inner borderline, three small foxmarks at upper right, otherwise in very good condition

Lot Essay

The plate of this print was considerably larger than the actual image. The difference between the second and third state are scratches outside of the image, which in the third state are largely burnished out. As the present impression is trimmed just outside the inner borderline, it is impossible to determine the state with any certainty.
