Potted miniature scenes and plants composed of precious materials were a popular form of ornament in the palaces, especially on festival days. A related jardinière of lotus flowers, this time presented in a red-glazed porcelain jardiniere, is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing (inventory number: Gu00126615). The extremely refined craftsmanship on the butterfly is very close to some of the jewellery from the Qing palace collection, see a very similiarly related butterfly hairpin, also in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing (inventory number: Gu00009742).
