VERACRUZ STONE YOKE

The massive yoke boldly carved with a highly stylized frog with tightly bent legs modeled in undulating, segmented planes, graphically jutting upper jaw pulled back to reveal two stylized, conjoined human heads with recessed eyes and mouth; in highly polished dense, speckled green-black stone with remains of red pigment.

Lot Essay

Joug imposant en pierre compacte vert-noir, lustrée et mouchetée avec des traces de pigment rouge, sculpté avec force d’une représentation très stylisée de grenouille aux pattes bien repliées et avec un rendu aux surfaces articulées et ondulées, à la mâchoire supérieure entièrement projetée en arrière et associée à deux têtes humaines stylisées aux yeux et à la bouche en retrait.
