Lot Essay

SEAMAN SCHEPPS

Born in 1881, Seaman Schepps earned the nickname of ‘America’s court jeweller’ thanks to his eponymous brand. Coming into its own in the Roaring Twenties, Seaman Schepps created avant-garde jewellery using gemstones cut as cabochons, hardstones as well as organic materials such as shells, ivory and wood, attracting a wide range of clients. One of its most recognizable design is the ‘Turbo Shell’ earring, a shell set with colourful gemstones and mounted in gold, which became a must-have for fashionistas around the world, such as the Duchess of Windsor.
