Lot Essay

It is thought that between the 1930s and mid-1950s, Universal Genève was represented in Paris by the celebrated house of Hermès, the present ref. 5160 a fabulous example of this partnership.

In generally very good, original overall condition, it impresses with a charismatic black gloss dial with gilt printing, the appeal further enhanced by the rare Hermès signature to the lower part.

The "Compax" was introduced in 1935, the world's first chronograph wristwatch with hour and minute registers, particularly appreciated by members of armed forces. The models were available in different case materials and forms and a variety of dial layouts.

Hermès
The Company was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès in Paris and has maintained an impeccable reputation being a leader in the luxury goods sector for almost two centuries.
