Lot Essay

According to the Archives of Vacheron Constantin, the present ref. 46003/411 was manufactured in 1984.

Reference 46003 is the mid-size model of the celebrated reference 222, originally launched in 1977 to celebrate the manufacturer's 222nd year of continous watchmaking.

The present example is a rare and well-preserved representative of this edition, sold with a set of period accessories, notably a Vacheron Constantin pack of cards, all rarities by themselves.

Introduced as a response to Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, reference 222 was designed by Jörg Hysek with an ultra-thin angular case, an integrated bracelet and a two-part case with an ingenuous screw-down serrated bezel. Radically diverging from the already existing design notions of the brand, the “222” paved the way for the future sport timepieces of the manufacture.

Today, examples of reference 222 appearing in public are highly coveted collector’s pieces, especially when in such well-preserved condition as this specimen
