TWO DARK GREEN JADE AXES
NORTHWEST CHINA, 3RD-2ND MILLENNIUM BC
Each thick axe has a hafting hole; that of the larger axe is drilled from both sides. The smaller axe, probably reshaped in antiquity from a larger axe, has the remains of an additional hole at the blunt end. The jade is now almost opaque.
The larger, 9 ¾ in. (24.7 cm.) high, cloth box
