This fine architectural overmantel is almost identical to one attributed to Muhammad Yusuf and Nur Muhammad which is now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (IS.79-1977). The V&A example was given to the museum by Sir Geoffrey Ramsden, CIE whose father, Colonel HFS Ramsden CBE, commissioned the piece in Simla in 1905. Muhammad Yusuf and Nur Muhammad were fretworkers, carvers and joiners with premises in Lakkar Bazar in the British hill station of Simla and a shop in Muhalla Ali, Jullundur, Punjab.
