The Art of invigorating and prolonging Life by food, clothes, air, exrecise, wine, sleep, &c. and peptic precepts, London: Hurst, Robinson, 1821, 12°, second edition, PRESENTATION COPY, front pastedown inscribed: "To Miss Edmead a token of esteem from her old friend the Author," further presentation inscription at head of B1, contemporary pasteboards backed in cloth [Wellcome III, p. 399] [and the same author's:] The Cook's Oracle containing receipts for plain cookery on the most economical plan for private families ... a new edition, London: for Cadell and Co., Edinburgh, Simpkin and Marshall and G. B. Whittaker, and John Cumming, Dublin, 1829, 12°, with 3-leaf advertisement at end (some marginal spotting), modern half calf, uncut. [Bitting p. 262: "this edition contains a list of 212 cookery books, dating from 1513 to 1814"; Wellcome III, p. 399] With the fourth edition of the Art of prolonging Life (1822) and the fifth edition of The Cook's Oracle (1823) in modern boards (some leaves severely torn).
