In a footnote to the the third edition of his Treatise on the Scurvy, Lind alluded to Poissonnier Desperrieres' claim to "the discovery of freshening sea water by a simple distillation, three years after the discovery had been made by me in England" -- an uncharacteristic expression of resentment at his work being overlooked (see C. P. Stewart & Douglas Guthrie, Lind's Treatise on Scurvy, Edinburgh, 1953, pp. 362-63).
