Lot Essay

Founded on the discourse by A. F. Naironi, the first section relating to coffee and tea, the second entitled "Du Chocolate Discours Curieux" translated from the Spanish of Antonio Colmenero de Ledesma (Madrid, 1631) by René Moreau, with his notes, the final part (pp. 165-188) entitled "Du Chocolate Dialogue; Entre vn Medecin, vn Indien & vn Bourgeois" by Barthelemy Marradon also translated from the original Spanish. Spon frequently used the pseudonym Philippe Sylvestre Dufour, thereby adding still more confusion to the authorship of this early treatise.
