Dr. Y. P. Chan (1900-1982) was an ophthalmologist. He graduated from the Peking Union Medical College in 1922 and in the 1930s he continued his research and education in the UK, France, Italy and Holland, further acquiring his doctorate degree in the field. During his lifetime, Dr. Chan was acquainted with artists such as Huang Binhong, Pu Ru and Zhang Daqian. He was passionate about Chinese classical literature and culture, and assembled a sizeable collection of paintings and calligraphy. Upon his passing, he donated his entire estate to his church, establishing the Dr. Y.P. Chan Evangelistic Foundation.
