Lot Essay

Fulco di Verdura (1898 – 1978), or Fulco Santostefano della Cerda, Duke of Verdura and Marquis of Murata la Cerda, began his career as an influential Italian jeweller after an introduction to designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel by the renowned American composer Cole Porter. Subsequently, he opened his own jewellery salon in 1939, which he called Verdura.
