THE CHOCOLATE POT WITH MARK OF AUGUSTINE COURTAULD, LONDON, 1721, BRITANNIA STANDARD; ONE COFFEE POT WITH MARK OF JOHN SWIFT, THE OTHER WITH MARK OF EDWARD FELINE, BOTH LONDON, 1735
Each tapering cylindrical with scroll handle, the domed covers with baluster finial, hinged on the chocolate pot, each engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked underneath and on the body and the cover of the chocolate pot, with scratchweight 'Wt 29 Ou. 10 Dwt' on the chocolate pot and '24:17' on the coffee pot
The chocolate pot 9 ½ in (24 cm.) high; the Swift coffee pot 9 1/8 (23 cm.) and the Feline coffee pot 8 ¼ in. (21 cm.) high
total gross weight 79 oz. 8 dwt. (2,470 gr.)
The arms on the chocolate pot are those of Wentworth impaling Blackett, for Sir William Wentworth 4th Bt. (1686-1763), of Bretton Hall, co. York, and his wife Diana (1703-1742), daughter of Sir William Blackett 1st Bt., whom he married at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1720. The estate eventually passed through the marriage of his grand-daughter to the Beaumont family, later Barons and Viscounts Allendale.
The arms on the Swift coffee pot are those of Norwood, possibly for Reverend Peter Norwood M.A. (1700-1740), eldest son of John Norwood (1664-1735), of Ashford, Kent. He died unmarried and his estate passed to his next eldest brother Reverend Edward Norwood (1709-1789), rector of Sevington, Kent.
The arms on the Feline coffee pot are those of Kingestone impaling another, possibly Hussey.
