Dated 1949 one page handwritten letter on Ty Cobb's letterhead with content referencing an autograph request which had been delayed by Cobb discovering the referenced request. It reads, in part, "…if you will mail picture I will feel honored to autograph and return at once. Hope you understand, I am , Sincerely Ty Cobb". Signature is very bold rating 9 out of 10. The letter shows original fold lines with some minor varied age toning. Accompanying the letter is a superb oversized 7"x11 ½" original sepia tone image of Cobb holding a bat in Detroit uniform. The photo is signed at lower right, "Ty Cobb 1/12/50" in green ink rating 8 out of 10. The image itself exhibits outstanding display quailities with excellent clarity having a few areas of surface creasing and small tear at top right with tape reinforcement on the reverse. The photo and letter are accompanied by several vintage file copies of letters original sent to Cobb in 1949 and 1950 relating to the signing. Amazingly, one letter specifically references the offered signed image noting , "Unfortunately, in the process of removing it from the envelope, the picture was torn." The writer goes on to request additional signatures for his friends who took the opportunity to jump on board with the previous success. Very uncommon duo of Cobb signature items each providing unimprovable primary source provenance for the other. Letter is encapsulated by PSA/DNA (9 MINT) with photo having been graded PSA/DNA (8 NM-MT). Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA (photo), full LOAs from JSA (photo and letter), and vintage file copy letters relating to the signing: Letter: EX, Letter signature: MT; Photo: VG, Photo signature: NM-MT
