The "fix" was in full swing. Despite their clear superiority between the lines the mighty Chicago White Sox were in the midst of losing the 1919 World Series. By the time the fifth game of the series began in Cincinnati the Reds found themselves needing just two more wins to capture the championship. Cincinnati pitcher Hod Eller threw a very fine game not alllowing any runs and collecting the win for the Reds. However, once again suspect play by the 'Black Sox' significantly aided the Reds when Hap Felsch booted a throw and mis-handled a double en route to a 5 to 0 loss. The Reds now stood at the doorstep of a World Series championship even though tainted. Offered is a baseball used in that very game played on October 6, 1919 in Cincinnati. Evenly light toned B.Johnson American League baseball which has been signed by the umpire crew from the game: Chas Rigler, Richard Nallin, Billy Evans (Baseball HOF), and Ernest Quigley (Pro Basketball HOF). Signatures range from 5-7 out of 10. Additional period ink notations as penned in Rigler's hand found on two adjacent side panels, "Oct. 6, 1919 Cincinnati-5 Chicago-0" and "Ball used in game of Oct 6th". The ball shows evident use including some varying degrees of surface abrasions. Very uncommon game artifact from the most infamous World Series in the history of the game.
