Lot Essay

The source for the elegant single-plane lattice design of the present lot is a vase-technique fragment published by Friedrich Sarre from his own collection, (Friedrich Sarre and Hermann Trenkwald, Altorientaliche Teppiche, Vienna and Leipzig, 1928, pl.8). A PETAG carpet with the same design but set upon a red ground and smaller in size, sold in these Rooms, 28 April 2005, lot 148.
