Lot Essay

Peter Rose's records show that the label to the underside formerly read: 'The Underworld, Bronze Statuette by G.B. suggested by Kipling's last Rymme(sic) of True Thomas, 1893: My lance is tippled o' the hammered flame/My Shield is beat o' the moonlight old/And I won my spurs in the Middle World/A thousand fathoms beneath the world'.
