SIR WALTER SCOTT (1771-1832)
A 2-page autograph letter, signed, from Castle Stuart(?), Thursday [n.d.], to Mr. Ballantyne, returning some verses and stating: "I have to request you will make my best acknowlegements ... for the verses on the Lady of the Lake ... I must return the Lady fortunate as she has been in many respects particularly happy in having given occasion to a composition of so much merit however much the poet may have overvalued her merit ... I will be particularly happy when you can contrive for me an opportunity of thanking in person Mr. Gillies for his flattering opinion expressed with so much elegance" (creased on folds).
