Recorked in March 2021. New wax capsules. Stencilled bottle with back label and neck hanger certificate of recorking by Ivo Couto (HM Borges cellar master). Level: into-neck
Family reserve. Old stencilled bottle with ‘S’. Just opened in the morning prior to the tasting.
Tasting note: Deep color with red hue. Smokey expressive nose, revealing its quite sweet aromas of fudge and exotic spices. A beautiful nose already, let alone after a day of breathing. Concentrated aromas.
Tighter extract rich taste, leathery aromas, good concentration, tobacco. On the after taste highly focused acidity and fine citrus bitters. Strong wine of class. The after taste very much more reserved then the initial open nose. Unique in its tobacco aromas. Quite concentrated. Very good Sercial.
Two days later from the same bottle. Deep orange copper colour. Intense nose of concentrated fudge aromas, waxy, very nice expression of sweet banana fruit, rich dried peaches, uplifting. Very good expression, great aromatic profile.
On the taste focused and so complex, multi layered. Very good fine acidity with a very good length, impressive wine! Now fully opened and revealing much more of its high quality. A great Sercial, what a balance. Tasted April 2021 at the Borges lodge. Edwin Vos
