H&H, Reserva Ribeira Real
Madeira
Recorked in 2021 by the H&H cellar master. New wax capsules with H&H seal. Golden labels. Levels into-neck
First Bottled in 1950. This Verdelho comes from vineyards located in Ribeiro Real, Estreito de Camara de Lobos. These vineyards belonged to João Joaquim Henriques, the last of the Henriques who passed away in 1968.
Tasting note: First tasted this at the lodge. Sweet pumpkins nose, rich intense nose. Off dry lovely acidity, vibrant fresh, great soft mid palette of citrus fruit and sweet apples. Fine finish of fresh citric acidity. Great length.
A few years later showing exceptionally well from a bottle shipped directly from the H&H reserves.
Clear orange mahonia color. Deep rich expressive nose of leather, classic furniture wax in sweet concentrated complex aromas. Punchy. Intense and highly complex from an extensive cask aging. Vintage not indicated but clearly from the mid to late 19th century. Fresh in high quality verdelho style.
Medium dry taste of fudge, sweet pumpkins, mineral, firestone tones, intense and lingering, concentrated and confirming my initial feeling that this wine has been aged in canteiro for more than 50 years. On the finish complex red grapefruit aroma's, juicy acidity and a slight fine bitter tone prevails. An amazing wine of great complexity. An essence of Verdelho. Last tasted November 2014. Edwin Vos
