CHINE, DYNASTIE MING (1368-1644)
Il est représenté accroupi, vêtu d'un dhoti noué à la taille laissant son buste entièrement découvert. Il porte une barbe ainsi que de larges sourcils. Sa longue chevelure est finement rendue par le travail d'incision. A l'arrière de la statuette, près de la base, se trouve une inscription à six caractères incisée Wugu Wang Zhen Wanmin.

Lot Essay

It is unusual to find this subject depicted in jade. Shennong Shi was a mythological emperor and is also known as the God of Farming.
The incised inscription Wugu Wang Zhen Wanmin can be translated as 'the King of the Five cereals encourage the myriad people'.
