Lot Essay

John Wayne: First Unfinished Model for the Monument was conceived in 1980 as the study for Jackson’s monumental depiction of the late actor The Horseman, installed along Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. The present bronze is cast number 11 from an edition of 20 examples in this scale. An edition of 40 bronzes without the bas-relief base was also cast.
