[Four species]
Variant 1. The models for these birds were borrowed by Audubon from the Museum of the Zoological Society of London, suggesting they were painted by Audubon in 1838 or possibly 1837. The modern names for these species are the Ancient Murrelet, the Least Auklet, the Crested Auklet, and the Rhinoceros Auk.
Engraving with hand-coloring, etching, and aquatint, dated 1838, on watermarked J Whatman paper dated 1837, with margins. Plate size 472 x 702 mm (639 x 967 mm sheet). (Some light creasing and minor handling marks.) Matted and framed.
