First edition of this extensive series of Jamaican views, originally issued in 7 parts from 1824 through 1825. Having published his Picturesque Tour of Italy in 1820, Hakewill visited Jamaica in 1820-21, making the colony the subject of this color plate book. Although best known for his views, Hakewill was also a trained architect who became a competitor for the erection of the new Houses of Parliament in 1836.
