Album containing forty-three albumen prints, twenty-one hand-tinted, several signed Bourne and the majority titled and numbered in the negatives, approx. two thirds dated in ink on mounts, red lacquer boards (spine lacking, front cover partially detached), ivory and gilt onlay depicting a Japanese woman being carried in a kago through a landscape, g.e., oblong 4to; with two photographs loosely inserted including a group portrait.

Lot Essay

This album was compiled by the engineer Harry Augustus Frederick Currie to document his travels through Japan and India 6th Jan. 1866 - 2nd July 1912. Currie was manager of the Kenya Uganda Railway from 1903-08 and had previously worked in China and Japan.
