Lot Essay

Bolsover Castle overlooks the Vale of Scarsdale and was built in the early 17th Century by Sir Charles Cavendish. It was ruined in the mid-18th Century. Cox was a frequent visitor to Bolsover in the mid-1830s, and there are a series of watercolours of the castle, it's park, and the approach to it.
