A KAWARI KABUTO (ECCENTRIC SHAPED HELMET)
EDO PERIOD (18TH CENTURY), PARTIALLY 20TH CENTURY
Helmet [kabuto]:
The five-plate black lacquered iron bowl covered with a lacquer structure formed as a large saba-o (mackerel tail), the large and wide tail raised relief and protruding from the back of the helmet, the prominent details at the center sharply formed
Neck guard [shikoro]:
The five-tier black-lacquered iron plate itazane shikoro (neck guard) with green sugake-odoshi (loose lacing), the small fukigaeshi (turn-backs) with gold lacquered maru ni itsutsu Kashiwa-mon (family crest of circled five-leaf oak)
With a Kicho Shiryo (Important Material) certificate no. 1278 issued by the Nihon Kacchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozonkai (Society for the Study and Preservation of Japanese Arms and Armor), dated 2022.5.22
