Fine Cosway-style jeweled binding in tribute to Gabrielle d’Estrées, the lauded advisor and mistress of Henry of Navarre. The volume is handsomely printed, being one of the Royal Library Historical Series.

Octavo (208 x 146mm). Title printed in red and black. Full crushed red morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe for J.W. Robinson, covers elaborately gilt-decorated with ornamental panels having at the corners the royal cypher of Henry of Navarre together with a foliated design, monogram of Gabrielle d'Estrees enclosed in laurel wreath on front cover, spine richly gilt in six compartments with raised bands, board edges gilt with double rule, yellow silk endleaves, turn-ins gilt-paneled, the upper doublure of light blue crushed morocco gilt, with recessed oval panel featuring a miniature portrait of Gabrielle d’Estrées on ivory, glazed and with gilt frame, surrounded by four pearls and red morocco floral inlay, all edges gilt, stamp-signed by the binder on lower turn-in; morocco clamshell case (upper joint of case split).
