A WILLIAM III SILVER COUNTER CASE AND SEVEN SILVER AND PLATED BOXES
MAKER'S MARK ONLY OF FRANCIS GARTHORNE, LONDON, CIRCA 1680
Plain cylindrical, the cover engraved with a flowerhead, marked in cover and inside; together with a silver-mounted tortoiseshell pot and cover, the rim engraved 'LADY RANDOLPH CHURCHILL FROM QUEEN ALEXANDRA, marked on cover and base with mark of George Fox, London, 1891; a George IV silver rectangular vinaigrette with concave sides, the cover and base decorated with watered silk pattern, the rims applied with cast foliate border, engraved on cover with initial ACV, marked in cover and in base for Thomas Pemberton, Birmingham, 1822; a Victorian silver snuff-box, rectangular with engine-turned decoration and a vacant cartouche, the thumbpiece applied with cast foliate band, later engraved inside with '23rd July 1935', marked in cover and in base for Francis Clark, Birmingham, 1835; a Victorian silver snuff-box, oblong with bowed ends and engine turned decoration, the hinged cover with scrolling cartouche engraved with 'WILLIAM H. VANNAN', marked in cover and base for Edward Smith, Birmingham, 1859; a Russian silver snuff- box, rectangular with niello decoration of a view of the Kremlin in Moscow on the cover and cityscape on underside, the sides with trelliswork pattern, marked in cover and in base for Moscow, 1845; a French silver pill box, the cover and base cast as a Louis XV coin, the sides fluted, marked on cover with illegible maker's mark and control mark, circa 1940; a German silver-plated, brass and copper tobacco box, the cover and base decorated with Louis XV style garden party above inscription 'TOBAK DU EDLES KRAUT WIR TREISEN DEINE TUGEND DU BIST DER ALTEN LUST UND DAS CONFECT DER IUGEND' and ' WER DICH MIT MASSEN BRAUCHT ALS EINGES SCHENK VON OBEN UNDE IN FAAR EILEN RAUCHT DER WIRD DICH MUSSEN LOBEN'
