GRIOTTE-CHAMBERTIN
The smallest of the Grand Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin is a 2.69ha vineyard. Domaine Ponsot is the largest producer, with a 0.89ha plot, which they vinified in metayage until 2016. The vines were planted in 1979. A romantic story, this vineyard has the name Griotte because cherry trees were once rooted here and the wines have a lovely cherry ripeness to them. The amphitheatre vineyard yields perfumed, peony scented wines and in mammoth vintages, such as 2009, the wine is an astonishing Pinot Noir.
