Details
CHAMBERTIN
Chambertin is one of the most prestigious and northernmost wine villages in Côte de Nuits.
The name Chambertin originally applied to a much larger area than it does today. The core of this original site now forms the modern 13.5 hectare Le Chambertin vineyard, although it once included the neighboring Clos-de-Bèze climat (wines from which can also be labeled Chambertin) and parts of several other vineyards.
Chambertin's soils are well-drained and stony, with a thin layer of pebble-strewn, chalky topsoil over a deep rocky base. The percentage of clay reduces higher up the site, giving way to drier, looser limestone. Classic Chambertin wine is distinguished by aromas of blackcurrant, currant and raspberry, with notes of liquorice and spices to which are added a floral contribution of rose and jasmine.
The parcel which Domaine Ponsot had under metayage covers 0,14ha with vines of more then 60 years old.
