Lot Essay

To the best of our knowledge, this magnificent diamond-set pink gold timepiece is the first example ever to be offered at international auction, providing the unique opportunity to obtain one of the most exclusive of Richard Mille’s timepieces without delay.

Designed as a truly unisex watch, the RM023 was based on the famous RM010. Extremely elegant, this timepiece is part-skeletonized and has an asymmetrical dial layout with appliqué Roman numerals on a sapphire crystal. The case took an incredible full year of research and development to produce and 68 different processes are required for the making of the three main component parts. It is water resistant to 50 metres which is ensured by 2 Nitrile O-ring seals and assembled with 12 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and abrasion-resistant washers in 316L stainless steel. The crown is collared with a sculpted Alcryn® band.

In common with all Richard Mille timepieces, the automatic winding movement of the RM023, caliber RMA02, is a technical marvel. The components are made in grade 5 titanium with black PVD or Titalyt® coating which provides great rigidity on the entire movement and in addition a perfectly flat surface necessary for the perfect functioning of the gear train. The movement also features Richard Mille’s now famous ‘variable geometry rotor’, a device that optimises the winding of the mainspring by adapting it to the user’s activities to prevent overwinding, it can therefore be adjusted by a watchmaker to suit different lifestyles.

This world-class Richard Mille watch is a rare and captivating masterpiece in every sense of the word, it is without doubt one of the most coveted of Richard Mille’s diamond-set timepieces.
