Lot Essay
According to the IWC museum, the present lot was sold in March 1991 to Japan.
We would like to thank the IWC museum for providing research support.
Together with the Swiss metallurgy specialists Prof. Steinemann and Dr Straumann (Straumann Institute), IWC participates in research for an ambitious project of a completely anti-magnetic watch. The solution is found among others in the niob-zircon alloy that is extremely difficult to process and from which the spiral is manufactured. The soft-iron cage is no longer required. The watch is tested in a magnetic resonance tomograph and can withstand up to an incredible 3.7 milliion A/m. Although the stability of the watch is probably higher, the technical options for testing are exhausted. IWC gives its creation the modest name of 'Ingenieur 500,000 A/m and was launched 1989. Of the stainless steel watch approx. 900 watches were made.
