A RETICULATED YELLOW JADE 'ABSTINENCE’ PLAQUE
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The plaque is carved in openwork with two confronting archaistic chilong enclosing an elongated panel that is inscribed on one side with two characters reading zhaijie (abstinence), and repeated in Manchu on the reverse. The stone is of an even greenish-yellow tone.
2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) long
