Faja, Malvasia 1775
Madeira
Recorked in 2019. New wax capsule. Old bottle with handwritten stencilling. Old bin-soiled handwritten slip label on the back with 'Malvasia 1775'. Level: into-neck
Tasting note: I first tasted this 18th century Madeira in January 2020. Intriguing intense rich nose of fudge, dried apricots and saffron spice, very gently singing from the glass. Subtle and multilayered, each time you pick up your glass another palette of aromas presents itself. Great complexity and harmony.
Unctuous first attack of taste, covering your palette with rich fruits, fresh shaved almonds and rhubarb aromas. The great acidity is nicely concentrated with a very good finish, showing a gentle touch of bitter. A complex wine of high quality. Fairly sweet and long cask aged. This is fantastic. The fine pretty grapefruit bitter is completing the phenomenal multidimensional aromas. A classic of the highest quality.
Half a year later on Madeira a last small taste from the remaining wine in the bottle. Still same explosion of fruits. Strong with a beautiful slight bitter tone. Old Cognac nose with great extraction. Impressive. Last tasted July 2020. Edwin Vos
