Madeira
Recorked in 2019. New wax capsule with RT family seal. Stencilled two part moulded bottle. Level: into-neck
From the old Teixeira family collection, descendants of the first discoverer of Madeira island.
The collection was recorked in 2018. All wines were tasted and approved or rejected.
The previous recorking must have been almost 70 years ago, given the poor quality of the original corks. Now the selection has made the collection in perfect state and the family stock is now in the best condition for the coming years.
Tasting note: First from a sample in January 2019, after the recorking of the remaining RT family stock. Intense orange color. Deep rich nose of caramel, straw, quite uplifting. Full and expressive. Intriguing array of aroma’s.
Soft mouth feel of fudge, hazelnuts and dried peaches followed by a fine acidity which balances out the strong lingering taste and cleans your palette. A very good Sercial with beautiful matured acidity under sweet fruit intensity.
Great length. A clear example of the greatness of Sercial after extended aging in cask.
Then two years later. Great nose of subtle fudge, straw and fine aromas of bees wax. Intriguing complex nose. Concentrated fine texture, creamy even, then a fine intense acidity lingering on in the fine dry waxy taste. Very good Sercial. Last tasted April 2021. Edwin Vos
