Lot Essay

A pair of similarly decorated mother-of-pearl-inlaid red and green lacquer cabinets are displayed in the Chu Xiu Gong 'Hall of Gathered Elegance' in the Forbidden City, Beijing. See a closely related red lacquer and mother of pearl-inlaid Kang table, decorated with repeated shou characters, also in the collection of the Palace museum of Beijing, which could be part of the same set as our present table.
