Lot Essay
Released in early 200s, Reference 116519 was an important stepping stone with many firsts for Rolex. Reference 116519 was one of the first white gold Daytonas to utilize Caliber 4130, Rolex’s first inhouse chronograph movement replacing the beloved Zenith-based caliber. The new movement had less parts than its predecessor, allowing for easier serviceability while also increasing the power reserve from 54 to 72 hours.
Between the precious dial and storied Daytona family, the present lot is a very rare and highly coveted Rolex timepiece. Reference 116519 bestows a meteorite dial which has been acid washed, enhancing the natural pattern of the rock and making the dial unique to the watch. The 18k white gold chronograph watch also covets red chronograph hands, which beautifully compliment silver colored dial, and add to the “sportiness” of the timepiece. Reference 116519 is a special wristwatch from Rolex’s most desirable Daytona line, and would be highlight in any serious watch collection.
