Lot Essay

In 1970, Rolex released Cosmograph Daytona Reference 6264. It was a daring move from the brand to create a manual-winding, gold, sports watch. This may be in part why the watch was produced for a total of 3 years, adding to its rarity and collectability.

The present lot has a champagne dial with matte black subsidiary registers that complement the bezel. A tachymeter graduation scale is featured on the bezel which has an acrylic inlay, typically only used for watch crystals. The bezel crystal is a distinctive feature of Reference 6264 in conjunction with its twin Reference 6262. Both watches were the last Rolex chronographs to utilize pump pushers. The case is made of 14k yellow gold and is paired with a rare 14k yellow gold Rolex Jubilee bracelet. The lovely contrast between gold and black, along with the short production period of this Reference 6264 makes the present watch a desirable Rolex to be added to any serious collection.
