Released in 2007, Reference 116689 stands out from the rest of the Rolex collection. The case measures at a large 44mm and is completely crafted in 18k white gold. To the surprise of many, a complicated inhouse movement was created and is unique to the watch. It features a flyback chronograph with a countdown regatta timer. The timepiece also has a platinum turning bezel which is used to aid skippers in tracking the start of a regatta race.
The present lot has a gloss white dial with a concentrically engraved silver subsidiary seconds register. The shape of the 18k white gold hands are unique to the watch, featuring a pointed tip, lume, and skeletonization. Red accents are present on the chronograph and regatta countdown timer hand. The watch it fitted on a solid 18k white gold Oyster bracelet which compliments the brawny construction of the case.
