Produced from 1998-2002, Patek Philippe Reference 5070J was the first execution of the 5070 series with a production count of less than 1000 pieces. The design of the large 42mm manually-wound chronograph can be traced back to 1940s Patek Philippe chronographs. The dial is matte black and has gilt-styled font. Both a tachymeter scale and 1/5 of a second graduations are present and surround the dial. The bezel is stepped and the case has straight lugs, further helping complete the watch’s prominent aesthetic.
Common in its era, the movement powering Reference 5070 is Patek Philippe Caliber CH 27-70. The movement is Lemania-based with a pleasurable beat rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour. The slower beat rate can be enjoyed via the chronograph center hand and it compliments the vintage charm of the wristwatch. A sapphire case back displays the beautiful hand-finished movement and demonstrates the mastery of Patek Philippe watchmakers.
