Lot Essay
Released in 2019, Reference 5172G-001 is Patek Philippe’s latest take on a twin register, manually-winding chronograph. Replacing Reference 5170 that was launched in 2010, Reference 5172, such as the present lot, is a significant upgrade from its predecessor and is a deceivingly “simple” timepiece full of subtle, elaborate details.
A closer inspection of the white gold case reveals beautiful, triple-stepped lugs and rounded chronograph pushers with guilloche finishing at their tips, reminiscent of vintage military chronographs. Further, Reference 5172 features a matte blue dial with applied white gold luminous Arabic numerals. The hands are syringe shaped which match the aesthetic of the Arabic numerals. Patek Philippe has gone a step further in the refinement of the hands by extending the tips and contracting them near the base. The present lot, Reference 5172G-001, is an excellent opportunity to own a charming chronograph wristwatch from a premier manufacturer that is suitable to wear in any occasion.
