Lot Essay
Maximillian Büsser is the mastermind behind the contemporary brand MB&F, famous for their extraordinary and other-worldly haute horology masterpieces since 2007. Recently, Büsser created an off-shoot brand under MB&F called “M.A.D.”, standing for “Mechanical Art Devices”. Discreetly released and sold for a modest retail price, the inaugural piece “M.A.D. 1” was almost impossible to obtain because it was only available to the friends of MB&F known as “The Tribe”, and devoted existing owners of MB&F watches. This caused a great surge and demand for the seldom seen wristwatch.
In response, Büsser released a slightly modified second edition of the M.A.D. 1 in red, available in very limited numbers by lottery, such as in the present lot. As expected from Max Büsser, the M.A.D. 1 combines ingenious design and construction with great looks. The 42mm stainless steel case with sapphire crystal body has, in place of a standard dial, a visible oversized titanium and tungsten winding rotor with luminous inserts. The time is read from revolving minute and hour rings with luminous numerals visible in the side of the crystal case with an arrow pointer between the lugs at 6 o’clock. A gap between the lugs and the main body of the case gives it an almost ‘floating’ appearance. The present watch gives MB&F devotees and collectors of contemporary watchmaking the chance to obtain an exclusive Max Büsser designed timepiece that has gained a cult following.
